Ali Jackson is the ultimate modernist drummer of our times. As multi–talented composer, arranger, music educator, and jazz percussionist, he ranks with the most versatile and innovative musicians today. Since 2005, he’s been a crucial contributor to the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Wynton Marsalis; other live and recording credits include Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Faith Hill, George Benson, and Harry Connick Jr. This week, Ali Jackson steps into the leader’s shoes at the head of a talent–heavy five–piece performing classics from some of the great American jazz quartets and quintets, including Louis Armstrong’s Hot Five, the Dizzy Gillespie/Charlie Parker Quintent, Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers, and the Miles Davis Quintet.
