Best known for his 18–year tenure as musical director for Kurt Elling, Laurence Hobgood played on, composed/arranged for, and co–produced 10 acclaimed albums by the singer – including the GRAMMY Award–winning Dedicated To You: Kurt Elling Sings The Music Of Coltrane and Hartman, named Best Vocal Jazz Album of 2009. As a leader, the pianist has released such acclaimed discs as When The Heart Dances (2007), a duet session with iconic bassist Charlie Haden; PoemJazz (2012), an adventurous collaboration with U.S. poet laureate Robert Pinsky; and the 2013 holiday collection Christmas, which the Chicago Tribune’s Howard Reich called “one of the most appealing recordings of an already distinguished career.” Hobgood’s 2015 trio release Honor Thy Fathers features original compositions and novel arrangements of popular tunes – Stevie Wonder's “If It's Magic” as an up–tempo burner, for example. Each track is dedicated to one of Hobgood's personal influences/inspirations, among them Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, and Oscar Peterson.
