Esperanza Spalding – like Otis Brown III, a member of Joe Lovano’s Us Five – says of this gifted drummer: “He always gives one hundred and ten percent of himself musically on the bandstand.” Bassist Ben Williams adds: “You always get the feeling playing with him, about the humility in his spirit and his willingness to do whatever it takes to take the music to its highest level.” Brown has recorded three albums with Us Five, including the GRAMMY–nominated Bird Songs. In August 2015, the drummer released his debut disc as a leader: The Thought of You (Revive/Blue Note), featuring trumpeter Keyon Harrold, bassist Ben Williams, and organist Shedrick Mitchell – all of whom will join him tonight, live at Jazz Standard!
