Trumpeter Avishai Cohen (not to be confused with the bassist of the same name) has been voted a “Rising Star” in the DownBeat Critics Poll for four years running – and for good reason, since his talents as a composer and bandleader are more than a match for his instrumental virtuosity. A member of the SFJAZZ Collective for six years, Cohen leads his Triveni trio with Omer Avital and Nasheet Waits; records and tours with the 3 Cohens Sextet that includes sister Anat and brother Yuval. Cohen first recorded for the fabled ECM label with saxophonist Mark Turner’s quartet on Lathe of Heaven, released in September 2014; this Jazz Standard run celebrates Into The Silence, his ECM debut as a leader. “Avishai Cohen is a multicultural jazz musician, among whose ancestors is Miles Davis.
