Billy Hart Quartet 75th Birthday Celebration

  • Jazz Standard 116 East 27th Street New York, NY, 10016 United States (map)

Shows at 7:30pm & 9:30pm nightly:

For his sideman credits alone, Billy Hart would be a living legend of jazz. He’s worked with groups led by Jimmy Smith (1964-1966), Wes Montgomery (1966-1968), Herbie Hancock (1969-1973), McCoy Tyner (1973-1974) and Stan Getz (1974-1977, and appeared on such landmark recordings as Miles Davis’ On the Corner (1972). But Hart also has established himself as a bandleader, beginning with his debut Enchance (A&M, 1977), which featured saxophonists Oliver Lake and Dewey Redman and bassists Dave Holland and Buster Williams. His two acclaimed releases for ECM, All Our Reasons (2011) and One Is The Other (2014), are among the best recordings of his career and feature the longstanding all–star quartet that Billy Hart will lead on our stage this week. “A drummer of earthy enlightenment, conversant in every branch of modern jazz but forever connected to its root.” (The New York Times
