Kenny Barron Trio

  • Jazz Standard 116 East 27th Street New York, NY, 10016 United States (map)

Shows at 7:30pm & 9:30pm nightly:

From his work with Dizzy Gillespie in the early 60s through to the present day, NEA Jazz Master Kenny Barron has an unmatched ability to mesmerize audiences with his elegant playing, sensitive melodies and infectious rhythms. The Los Angeles Times named him “one of the top jazz pianists in the world” and Jazz Weekly calls him “the most lyrical piano player of our time.” Since the release of his recording debut as a leader in 1974 (Sunset To Dawn on Muse Records), he has issued more than 40 albums. For 27 years until his retirement in 2000, Barron was a revered professor of music at Rutgers University. This Jazz Standard engagement celebrates Kenny Barron’s forthcoming Impulse! CD Book Of Intuition, his first recording with his trio of 10 years. The new record features his nonpareil Thelonious Monk interpretations (“Shuffle Boil,” “Light Blue”) alongside new original compositions like “In The Slow Lane” and “Cook’s Bay.”
